Estonian Artists Association Spring Exhibition

Curator Tamara Luuk

On its twentieth year, the legendary annual exhibition of the Estonian Artists’ Association will open its doors at Tallinn Art Hall on 11 June, in addition to the already opened exhibitions at the City Gallery and Art Hall Gallery.

The largest exhibition in two decades will present works by 142 artists, who have been selected by a jury from more than 300 applications. The jury of the exhibition this year consisted of Elin Kard, Indrek Köster, Tiit Pruuli, Indrek Grigor, Tamara Luuk, Kaarel Eelma and Andra Orn. Visitors can purchase their favourite works from the exhibition and also vote for the recipient of the Public Choice Award.

The Spring Exhibition offers the joy of recognition. Above all, the display focuses on works by the middle and older generation of artists, but the list of participants also includes younger artists. Tiit Pruuli, a member of the jury, says: “On the one hand, this year’s jury work was boring for a novice art evaluator like me. We each worked remotely on our home computers, so we could not listen to the knowledgeable and exciting discussions among the respected experts. In terms of the end result, it was certainly very straightforward and transparent: different views and experiences were represented in the jury, but these could not influence each other in a coffee table discussion. Everyone submitted their lists and in the end all the points were summed up.”

The Public Choice Award worth 5,000 euros will be presented by art patrons Tiit Pruuli, Jaan Manitski, Riivo Anton, Aivar Berzin and Rain Tamm. You can vote for your favourite at Tallinn Art Hall and the galleries until 5 July. The prize will be awarded at Tallinn Art Hall on Wednesday, 8 July 2020. At the same time, a catalogue of works exhibited will be presented and a gift voucher of 500 euros for the NOAR platform will be drawn from among all the voters. The platform also includes works displayed at the Spring Exhibition.

As part of the Spring Exhibition, a portrait exhibition curated by Kai Kaljo and featuring 66 artists has already been opened at the Art Hall Gallery.

The annual exhibition of the Estonian Artists’ Association, Spring Exhibition 2020, will be open at Tallinn Art Hall and City Gallery until 12 July, and in Art Hall Gallery until 5 July. The exhibition was designed by Kaarel Eelma; the catalogue was designed by Maris Lindoja.

On the opening day of the exhibition, on 11 June at 4 pm, a guided tour in Estonian with curator Tamara Luuk and at 5 pm in Russian with guide Darja Nikitina will take place at the Spring Exhibition 2020. Please register at publik@kunstihoone.ee.
