SOOLO / Andres Roots
On Sunday, 11 July at 4 pm, Tallinn Art Hall welcomes you to our SOLO concert series with Andres Roots and his unstoppable blues!
The French webzine Blues Again! compares the Tartu-based slide guitarist Andres Roots to a fine Bordeaux wine that only improves with age, the American Bman’s Blues Report praises the perfect balance of traditional and contemporary in his music, and the book “100 Years of Estonian Music” lists him as the country’s “internationally best-known player of pure blues”.
Having first reached a global audience with the band Bullfrog Brown at the start of the century, Roots has performed in the USA and throughout most of Europe, sharing stages with international stars from Ismo Haavisto and Dave Arcari to Tuomari Nurmio and Honeyboy Edwards. His music has enjoyed airplay on five continents and in 2018, Roots was voted Bluesman of the Year by the listeners of Severn FM in the UK. In his native Estonia, Andres Roots’ 2016 compilation LP “Roots Music” earned him a Golden Disc award and remains the only blues album to ever top the sales charts in the Baltics.
Over the last three years, Roots has put out three instrumental solo albums: “Breakfast in September” (2018) contains studio takes, “Mississippi to Loch Lomond” (2020) collects live cuts from concerts in the USA, Scotland and Estonia, and “Tartu Lockdown” (2020) presents home recordings made during last year’s COVID spring. Roots’ acoustic set at the Tallinn Art Hall will feature material from all three, along with a few previously unreleased numbers.
Tickets available at Fienta here.
The SOOLO concerts are organised in collaboration with the Tallinn Art Hall, curator Robert Jürjendal.
