Woodcarving workshop with artist Jan Lütjohann at 1 pm

On 28. October at 1 pm artist Jan Lütjohann invites you to a wood-carving workshop at Tallinn City Gallery in the exhibition “Pine-fulness”

The event combines carving wood and the kind of freeform conversation that happens when the hands are busy. Participants (learn to) use basic knives to carve wooden sticks collected in Tallinn and sharpen the knives with stones also found in Tallinn. Lütjohann’s work “Daylight, Traces, Talks” is part of the group exhibition Pine-fulness, read more here.

Jan Lütjohann (1987) is a German sculptor and educator who lives and works in Finland. In his work he often explores the possibilities and limitations inherent in manual tools and pre-industrial work methods. For Lütjohann, such technologies represent important potential for contemporary and future practices. Recent exhibitions include Things that Contain at MUU gallery in Helsinki (2021), Time and Other Resources at Galleria Sculptor in Helsinki (2019) and A Little Bit, Every Day (with Uku Sepsivart) at Hobusepea gallery in Tallinn (2018).

Up to six participants can sign up. Please pre-register before 27. Oct here.

If you have registered to the event and by any reason cannot attend– please inform us by sending an e-mail to our gallery assistant Hanna – kh@kunstihoone.ee.

The workshop is free of charge, the working language is English. The workshop does not require technical skill and is also suitable for beginners. However, the work with sharp tools requires that participants agree to follow safety instructions.
